Technical Debt Tetris

Experience the visceral trade-off between speed and code quality. Release features by completing rows, but watch how "quick hacks" leave hollow bugs underneath that drag down your velocity, induce control lag, and cause operational collapse.

Live Presentation Guide (10 Minutes)

Use this interactive game live with an audience to make the hidden cost of technical debt concrete for non-technical managers.

Step 1: The Honeymoon (Minutes 0 - 3)

Start the game. Play standard Tetris cleanly. Tell the audience: "We are building our product the right way. Controls are smooth, releases are clean. But notice how slowly we are releasing features."

Step 2: The Fast-Paced Hack (Minutes 3 - 6)

Trigger 3 or 4 **Quick Hacks** (Spacebar) to drop blocks instantly. The audience will see the score shoot up quickly. Point out: "Look at how fast we're shipping features! We're heroes! But look under the blocks... we've left red bug holes."

Step 3: The Friction & Legacy Wall (Minutes 6 - 8)

Let the **Technical Debt Index** cross 25%. Show the flashing **LEGACY LATENCY** warning. Demonstrate the lag: press the arrow keys and show how the blocks respond sluggishly (input delay). If you hit 45% debt, show how rotations occasionally fail. Explain: "This is what it feels like to code in a legacy system. Every move has lag and friction."

Step 4: The Clean-Up Dilemma (Minutes 8 - 10)

Trigger a **Refactor Sprint**. Point out that the green chimes are clearing the red bugs, but you aren't scoring any points and your **Customer Satisfaction** gauge is falling. Conclude: "Refactoring takes focus away from new features. If you wait too long, your codebase goes bankrupt."
